Introduction:

“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” – Mahatma Gandhi.

Project ‘Aarogyadhan’, meaning “Health is Wealth” in Hindi, is an initiative by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Philanthropic Development Office (BSH-PDO India) to serve the needy and marginalized in the society, and to provide vigorous assistance to the communities affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

This is the 2nd mediation in a 2-part program by the BSH-PDO, focusing on a long-term intervention in serving our communities, and giving the public periodic access to medical services through the setting up of medical centers.

The outburst of COVID-19 within the country has turned into an economic and health crisis, resulting in many communities having no access to basic needs such as food and medicine. Under such severe circumstances, we have taken the necessary steps to raise public awareness, distribute sanitizers and face masks, and provide food relief to families living in the villages where our network centers are located.

Beneficiaries:

12,600 individuals within 42 communities around the network centers under our PDO.

Project Implementation:

This project aims to conduct free medical camps for 42 villages. The beauty of this project is empowerment of the communities and establishments towards sustainable healthcare. At the same time, it follows our organization’s vision and mission to serve underprivileged societies in the finest possible methods. We will also educate our communities about communicable and infectious diseases that can be catastrophic in our society if not handled properly.

Aarogyadhan is designed to continue our initiatives to fight the COVID-19 pandemic with a long-term solution in mind, whereas our “Save Lives, Feed Families” program was to serve the immediate need of food and nutrients.

Through Aarogyadhan, we shall setup free medical camps in different part of the country by collaborating with our network centers, to provide checkups and impart further awareness of COVI-19 and other infectious and communicable diseases to our communities, all within Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

With our current infrastructure, we target to setup medical camps in the 14 network centers under BSH-PDO India, with at least 3 medical camps in each location for the next 3 years. Each camp will accommodate 300 individuals including women, elderly and children, but it will also serve other underprivileged members of society like migrant workers, domestic workers and quarry laborers.

The Aarogyadhan project will see the collaboration of BSH-PDO India, hospitals owned by us, and other healthcare units in the particular locality. Our camps will perform general health checkups for the community. For more severe cases, they can be referred for further treatment.
