Introduction:

The Leyte Kalipayan Dance Troupe Inc. Philanthropic Development Office (PDO), one of the best folkloric dance troupes in the Philippines today, has been dancing for 58 years across the globe, composed of students from various universities in the Eastern Visayas region. Considered scholars in their respective schools under the field of arts, they are also trained to become exemplary in the field of value and character formation to become good cultural ambassadors of the Philippine society.

The troupe has been on 28 international tours and performed in 37 countries globally; and achieved the Silver Medal in an International Folklore Festival in Dijon, France. It a grantee of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, as well as an awardee of the National Gawad for Dance. Their most recent accomplishment was being internationally recognized and now listed as one of the Best Dance Companies in the world by World Folklore Organization in 2016 (www.danceanddance.com).

In addition to their passion for culture and the performing arts, a key reason making the Leyte Kalipayan Dance Troupe special is that they perform an annual world tour to raise awareness and financial support for the preservation of their heritage in Leyte Province, as most of their articles were destroyed when Super Typhoon Haiyan struck the province back in November 2013.

The young students that dedicate their lives by performing do not come from well-to-do families. Their parents are mainly daily wage earners who are now badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to safety measures, the troupe’s performances have been postponed until 2021, and their parents’ means to provide has also been taken away. As a result, the children and their families face a problem of food insecurity.

Program Implementation:

It is said that children are the Future of the World. Therefore, we need to preserve and protect them from falling apart while the world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The “Great Talents Are Hope for Tomorrow – COVID-19 Relief Program” will support the talented direct beneficiaries of the Leyte Kalipayan PDO and their immediate families, who are in dire need of help.

Providing them with their needs for daily subsistence will be of great contribution in safeguarding their thoughts and emotions. Their parents may have lost their jobs, but they have another family – the Leyte Kalipayan PDO – who is ready to give help and support when they needed most.

We have great optimism that this corporal work of charity will have a great impact in the lives of our beneficiaries, by helping them to see better perspectives in life for a brighter tomorrow. This, no doubt, will be embedded in their hearts and minds for many years to come, enabling these children to see through future challenges with greater hope.

Budget:

Support funds will help our direct beneficiaries and their families survive this COVID-19 pandemic crisis with basic needs like food:
